Now that the megapixel war has ended or at least significantly slowed, camera makers have moved into the dark as a way to sell their products. The blogosphere is overflowing with high ISO performance tests. Like many of you I don’t care about ISO 12400 and the sensor noise at that ISO. But it gives us all something to talk about, nonetheless the current camera war should focus on great build quality and high dynamic range. High dynamic range doesn’t mean making three images that are stitched by the camera but one good image with high dynamic range. As for build quality to many pro-sumer and pro cameras feel like plastic toys, and for that matter a lot of them look ugly. However this is a bout the high ISO wars and a tip to perspective buyers, beware of the ISO war unless you are shooting in near darkness. Any camera that does well in standard ISO ranges (50-1600) is all you need. Just a quick throwback to megapixels more isn’t always better 24 megapixels on an APSC is a bit much Sony. I hope more camera makers can follow Leica in at one model, you know a digital camera with great image quality (close to film), fine build quality, and last but not least good at only taking pictures not just stacking gimmicky features. End the high ISO crap.
